Case Study Database
The Case Study Database is designed to enable scholars planning to teach courses in philanthropy, foundation consultants looking for real-life examples of strategic philanthropy, donors or foundation executives who want to learn from the experiences of other foundations, or anyone who’s curious about philanthropy to find case studies of philanthropic initiatives. There are currently more than 600 case studies linked to in the Database.
Cases produced by the Teaching Case Writing Program of the CSPCS are available, for free, directly from the site. Instructors are invited to email Barry Varela at email@example.com for case notes to cases produced by CSPCS. Cases available from other sources are abstracted and linked to. If you encounter a broken link to a case, please notify Barry Varela. We do not sell any materials, though we do link to sources that sell products including case studies.
Titles and abstracts are fully searchable. Users can browse by sector, keyword, geographic region, publishing source, and date of publication.
Users can also browse within browsing results. For example, if you want to find all the cases that the Ford Foundation has published on criminal justice, click on "Ford Foundation" within "Source"; on the screen that lists all the Ford cases, click on "Criminal justice" within "Sector." You'll find links to the three cases that Ford has published on criminal justice.
We are still in the process of assembling the Case Study Database. If you know of a philanthropy case study and would like to see it included in the Database, contact Barry Varela at firstname.lastname@example.org.
