Abstract:
What types of institutions and policies are necessary to promote effective indigenous philanthropy? There has been a rapid growth in indigenous organised philanthropy in the developing countries in the past decade and some generalisations can be made about what enhances effective development of indigenous philanthropy. South Africa offers one example of how quickly a philanthropic infrastructure can develop, and the types of institutions that have grown along with it.
